Neurodiversity assessment platform to help kids and adults

Executive summary
Designing a low-cognitive load product that provides insight into early signs of ADHD and autism in ages 7-70.
UCSF Neurology have a suite of games that measure executive function. They needed a way to share this data in a clear way with parents, teachers, case managers and adults.
Role
Product design (ensuring low cognitive load, accessible and asset-based)
Dashboards, prototypes and design system
Iteration as testing and interviews surfaced insight
Approach
Working as one of two designers with Menlo Global Research and the Neuroscape team I ran a co-creation workshop, creating key personas and job stories before using Figma to create a brand identity, design system, interface and prototypes.
A series of games to measure executive function
The Neuroscape team at UCSF have built a series of games to measure executive function, with the goal of identifying ADHD and autism in ages 7-70. They needed a way to show the outcomes to each age group.

Onboarding to explain executive function
Research uncovered that many people don't know what executive function is, so part of the UX is explaining its role upfront.

Asset-based parent dashboard
Ensuring the parents get useful data and feel in control of that data which was a concern surfaced in stakeholder interviews.

4 key personas
Each persona needed different data and would access said data on different devices. There are 4 dashboards covering specific use cases for each persona.

Handling sensitive data comparisons
Letting people compare their scores to others in the peer groups proved a powerful feature.

Showing change over time
Although executive function can't necessarily be improved, it can be measured over time to provide insight into behavioural patterns that might impact it.

Providing support
Tailored support and resources is provided based on personal scores. A huge benefit to parents who sometimes feel at a loss.

Kids dashboard
Following asset-based design we remove mention of comparison, and use positive, encouraging copy with an engaging but not too overwhelming scoring and badge system.

Asset based design system
The interface needs to feel calm, not judgmental. It uses calm colours, clear hierarchy, friendly illustrations, sans serif typography and encouraging copy.
